Changing Definitions of Birthday Celebration!!

As we grow old ... birthday's seems to loose the charm from our life...as it's a fact that life ...and stages of life doesn't remain same

Except WhatsApp status and Instagram stories .. birthday are same usual days as other days of the year.

Once upon a time ..that's when we were kids ...now we have our own kids ...I used to count the days from Jan or Feb itself ...as March month started ..as this was the exam's time .

When I was in school almost fifteen days before birthday,Mind used to start gamble upon topics/questions..which now seems to be insane
-My Birthday dress..I used to back of my mom dad ...for dress.
-Friend to whom you will be taking along with you to teachers for giving chocolates.
-I even used to think about the box in which you will put your chocolates..haha πŸ˜‚

As you go to college,
Your celebrate it with them.
In the first year of engineering we used to vist Mc'd on each and every one's birthday..we were almose 8 members in our group.
They gifted me make up ...haha ..and literally they put on my face ..as I hated it..and dressed simply..I mean I was like a tomboy.

In our second year ..we started celebrating our birthday's in an boys orphanage.

From 3rd year,we started movies along lunch.
After the entry of WhatsApp in our life... WhatsApp groups used to be formed excluding the one ..whose birthday is approaching.

These groups..like Jacobian clubs/groups used to be the place ..digital space ..to discuss about contribution..ideas ..how and where to celebrate..it used to be planned out well before hand .. surprising the birthday girl ( I was in the girls college).

Then again after coming home ..my students..my tuition students..from all the batches used to visit and every batch used to get cakes .. students of the particular year ..all the classes..they used to decorayone of the room or terece..and letting me enter only after they are prepared..lol ...that was all fun ..that was the time worth living.

Before corona ..and before my wedding..that was the last year of such kind of celebrations...I think I miss ..all the fun I used to have with my students..dancing till 10pm along with them.my college friends kalyani and Pooja also used to visit home ..and kalyani used to dance her heart out along with kids .. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜†

Every phase is very important in our lives.

Then comes the birthday's..when your style of celebration changes..as you gets married.

Now your spouse surprises you with surprise trips.

This is my 3rd birthday after marriage..and this time I just feel like staying at home .. sitting calmly in peace and that's the kind of day is itself seems to be a celebrations in itself.

Maybe we tend to expect less from people..from life.

Kind of celebrations keeps changing as you age or enter a new phase of life ..it may be being a wifey, mother !!

Accepting  it and embracing it !!

College life is always the best and having girls groups  is a blessing!!

Life has moved on ..every one is doing best at their pace .
You might not be talking everyday but you feel immense happiness..as soon as any new picture from any of your friend pop's up on social media sites ..
Some people gives you memories for lifetime and college friends are Indeed those.

You again get some gems at your work place and they can't be forgotten and I am blessed to have them in life...who keeps on reminding me of my college days ..all the fun 90's kids could have .. irrespective of the states in which they have grown up.

Note:90's kids have done almost all the things in the same way !!

If anything forgotten.. would love to hear!!

  1. I think we have to find our own way to celebrate our birthdays as we get older. With our friends around us, with family, or maybe even go on a trip.

  2. It's fascinating how birthdays transition from eagerly anticipated events, filled with excitement over dresses and parties, to more subdued, intimate celebrations. Your journey from celebrating with friends and family, to orphanage visits, then onto quiet dinners and eventually finding joy in peaceful moments at home, mirrors a broader journey of personal growth and changing priorities.

  3. Life keep on changing and so the celebration also. As we grow older we didn't get that much excitement. But cutting cake is a mandatory.

  4. Change is the only constant. I tried to reach out to my school and college mates but it all fizzled out after one reunion.

Birthdays are indeed joyful when spent with your loved ones and friends. As we are growing older, I am loving the idea of celebrating my special day with only myself, doing things that I always to do. It is extremely peaceful and gratifying.

  6. It's interesting to see how birthdays change from being highly anticipated occasions, with plenty of enthusiasm surrounding dresses and parties, to being more low-key, private affairs. Your path from enjoying holidays with loved ones to visiting orphanages, having quiet meals, and finally discovering happiness in solitary times at home, represents a more general path of personal development and shifting priorities. As we grew older, we experienced less thrill. However, I am planning to celebrate my birthday at old age home this year.

  7. I was the youngest of 5 siblings so we didn't celebrate our birthdays at all. However, like you, I remember thinking about whom to take on rounds to distribute sweets in school and during that time girls used to suddenly try and act close so that we took them with us to other classes... hahaha!
You are right Sonu, as we age, we tend to like bliss and calm more on our bdays than party n drink and dance.

  8. I feel nostalgic after reading your post. It's true how our birthday celebrations evolve over time but the memories we create with friends and loved ones remain precious. I feel when we grow up, it's all up to us how we want to celebrate our birthdays. We can't keep depending on others to make us feel special.

  9. I hated my Birthdays at home because as a young kid, me and my sister both had birthdays just a week apart and we would often celebrate them together on the same day, I don't remember which ones though but it changed when we grew up and we had more fun when we celebrated it only with our family at home! Yes, we grow we change.

  10. That " Friend whom you will be taking along with you for distributing chocolates to the teachers'' was a very tough choice. I can vouch that it has even led to some meltdowns and fall-outs in my school days. It's true that our way of celebrating changes as we age. Thanks for the trip down memory lane with this 90s throwback post.

  11. This post really hits home! It's true how birthdays change as we grow up. From childhood excitement to more meaningful celebrations with friends and loved ones, it's a journey. Your college birthday traditions sound fun and the shift to digital planning via WhatsApp groups is so relatable. Thanks for sharing this nostalgic journey.

  12. So true... Birthdays are always special and needs to be celebrated with your loved ones and as you said each phase of life we have different ways of celebrating it. I too miss my school and college days.. Care free and so much fun.

  13. It's really overwhelming to observe the change in the meaning of birthdays over time. Initially, they used to be highly awaited events filled with excitement about what dress to wear, whom to invite and celebrations. Yet, as we mature, the significance of birthdays often undergoes a transformation, becoming quieter, more introspective affairs. Your journey from reveling in festive gatherings with loved ones to finding contentment in simpler, solitary moments at home reflects a broader pattern of personal growth and change in the thought process for a better choice of priorities in life. As we age, the thrill surrounding birthdays tends to diminish. However, there's a beautiful realization that emerges – the joy of giving back. Your decision to celebrate your birthday at an old age home is both admirable and appreciable. It signifies a shift towards meaningful experiences and a desire to make a positive impact in the lives of others. By choosing to share your special day with those who may otherwise be overlooked, you're embracing the true spirit of generosity and compassion. This shift in perspective shows the richness of your life's journey. It's a reminder that while the outward celebrations may fade, the depth of our connections and the fulfillment derived from acts of kindness only continue to grow. Your decision to celebrate in such a thoughtful and selfless manner is a testament to the beauty of aging gracefully and finding joy in the simple yet profound moments of life. All I can say is that I am really proud of You Sonu. May God bless you with immense happiness and success in life. My best wishes for you.

  14. True, just as everything else, birthday celebrations too change as we age. for me college days were the best. Neither before that nor now after marriage, I celebrate birthdays. They are usually quiet these days.

  15. True, all the excitement also fades. It is like another day with good food and a loving family which I think is the best blessing of life.

  16. I can completely relate to that. Earlier I used to be excited about my birthday. Now I prefer to spend it with family and a small group of friends. Call it adulting if you will.

  17. I'm an 80s kid and remember my birthdays spent cutting homemade cake surrounded by many friends. College had it's charm with birthday treats and now with two kids it's a different thing altogether. Every phase has its charm though.

  18. It's such a joy to reminisce about the simpler times, isn't it? . It's heartwarming to hear about the wonderful traditions and memories you've shared with your college friends and students over the years. Life may change, but the bonds we form and the memories we cherish remain evergreen.

  19. This post brought back a lot of memories. Being a 90s kid I could resonate to a lot of this. But I agree that a lot has changed and it's inevitable

  20. haha, your post brought back so many of my memories too, we all used to celebrate like this, and now i feel like we are going back to looking forward to and planning for our birthday celebrations, especially all the gifts we want :)

  21. I so agree. Your post took me to my school and college days' birthday parties. Loved them. And in school, whom to take with us to distribute chocolates was the biggest question.

  22. I loved my birthdays too! The parties, new dress, gifts and return gifts, long phone calls with friends, cards and everything! Now of course, that charm has disappeared! So I started obsessing with my kids' birthday parties! Have had awesome fun planning and executing elaborate theme parties for my kids!

  23. First of all, the world should normalize one going in their shell on birthdays. Its just too much attention all of sudden that makes go eerie. But yes, I do sometimes miss the school days that you pointed out. We could wear coloured clothes on that day while distributing sweets to everyone.

  24. Very true excitement to celebrate or the ways to celebrate changes with age and time. As kids we like to call all our friends and have good party time but after marriage we get peace or relaxation for one single day is a huge gift.

  25. First of all, happy birthday to you! Yes, birthdays do undergo a change as we grow older, but they are still cherished - just in different ways.
