Today I went to see newly released movie called "Samrat Prithvi Raj" with my mom and aunt.
To be Frank i was bored and felt like "aur kitna time ?"
Can we learn history from such movies ?Does we can conclude that we know everything or much about after watching such movies?
Are such historic movies able to shed light on truth ..i e True history or they are being moulded for entertainment?
Can we say that we know everything about akbar, jodha, ..etc .
Does the research done by film producers were enough?
Are they able to send the right knowledge in the society??
Or
We need to see historic movies just for entertainment.
Shouldn't we learn from movies ??
Shouldn't we develop our knowledge about the historic character based on such movies ??

These people never do proper research and they'll never show the characters in proper way. We must take away some knowledge after watching a historical movie but this movie doesn't even entertain us.
ReplyDeleteI believe a movie should be entertaining as well as leave us with some knowledge of our heritage/history. Learning about history through movies is a wonderful option but I haven't had a chance yet to see any movie that does justice to this.
ReplyDeleteNot every movie gives real insight of history. Every historical movie turned to be entertainment purpose. But yes I like Padmavat, Zodha Akbar. They are awesome.
ReplyDeleteI love history but I don't was movies based on history becuse they wont give correct info always and I am afraid that I might end up disliking the actor or actress.
ReplyDeleteWhat I feel, it's high time to understand that our history is not shown appropriately rather not even taught properly in schools. If any director or producer want to make a movie on our history should have guts to show the real history NOT twisted on.
ReplyDeleteThese movies and even tv shows are fictionalised version of history meant to serve the egos of a few. It's sad how much cinematic liberty is taken and reality twisted beyond relevance.
ReplyDeleteI love historic novels and movies as they help us understand and visualize the themes and culture of those times but one never knows how much research and creative freedom the producer may use.
ReplyDeleteMovies are entertainment. We should always take them with a pinch of salt. Every director has his own vision and adds spice to make it a seller.
ReplyDeleteI do understand where you are coming from but Indian historicals are often skewed to make them more "entertaining". Not the best place for a lesson in history.
ReplyDeleteWhen movies are made on any historical figures then they put some extra masala to make it interesting. Not all the facts are original. I think if they stick to the raw facts then it won't be able to generate any revenue on the box office.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you completely. It is important that historic movies should be made up after proper research and should give a proper message to community. I had seen promotion events of movie you have mentioned. but never thought to watch this in theater.
ReplyDeleteWatch history in a modern way 😂, its like u kinda get what was it in history but with today's touch
ReplyDeleteI'm a lover of history but not just movies, even historical fiction, I believe gives one aspect or a fictionalised aspect of the truth. As it is, history is always told from the pov of the victorious. So there's no one truth, anyway.
ReplyDeleteI believe a movie should be entertaining, informative and leave us with some knowledge. These people 🙄 will never do the proper research neither present the character properly. Still they are thinking they can fool the people. But now we are doing our homework too. I agree with you completely.
ReplyDeleteHistory was very boring in school but I love to read books on history, whether loosely based on the the actual events or real-life. As for movies Sonu, they give a disclaimer at the beginning so I guess we need to set our expectations depending on that... kaveri.
ReplyDeleteI think with movies they are allowed to take creative liberties- at most we can hope they are up front about creative additions
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely right. Indian movies on history are a joke these days and they are not even entertaining. There is a limit to creative liberty.
ReplyDeleteI think these movies are a way to get ppl interested in history. Once you like it, you tend to research some more into the topic. There will always be Artist licence taken in such movies otherwise you won’t watch it! Brinda ritecontent dot com
ReplyDeleteIn historic movies writers and directors do take creative freedom to make it more commercial but in the process they might disrupt the truth a bit but again otherwise people don't read or know about anything and everything about history. So I feel it good but again I would like to watch such movies at home instead of spending money on them.
ReplyDeleteWhen movies based on history are made director and team should clearly mention that these particular scenes are for fictional purpose, else general audience seem to believe the movie as truth. Documentary is good than movies to know about history.
ReplyDeleteMovies are made for entertainment, however when any alterations are being made, the makers should mention that. I liked watching Jodha Akbar though...will definitely skip this one.
ReplyDeleteI have not even seen this movie. I feel lately our bollywood movies have lost the urge to be content driven. The audience today loves content and good acting. These movies are purely entertainment and nothing else.
ReplyDeleteI think it's not art anymore. It's just a few numbers crunched by marketing folks presented for masses to consume. I am a big fan of history based movies but these days most of it is crap.
ReplyDeleteLot of serious questions to mull.over. since there would be fictional aspects to the historical movies, we cannot be sure about what to take and what to discard
ReplyDeleteYou make a strong point.
